Job Description:
The Machine Shop Apprentice position is responsible for the teardown , cleaning, inspecting, reassembling, and packaging of cylinder heads.
They are also responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of shop, tools, and equipment.
Essential Duties:
Removes valves, springs, keepers, and shims with appropriate tools.
Operates parts washer to remove carbon and paint buildup.
Removes valve guides and seats by use of welder, tooling, and air hammer.
Removes any remaining paint and carbon by use of grinder, drills, brushes.
Performs final cleaning process by use of ultrasonic cleaning machine.
Installs new guides and seats with correct tooling, shop press, includes the use of calipers to verify correct valve guide height.
Communicates with and assists machinist with surfacing, reassembling and ready to install inspections of the cylinder heads.
Cleans and taps all bolt holes, and install heli coils if necessary in cylinder heads.
Performs final inspection, and packages cylinder heads for delivery.
Maintains cleanliness of assigned shop areas, equipment, and tools.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
Vocational/Technical school.
Experience:
Required:
Welding, automotive repair, engine, or cylinder head experience or knowledge.
Preferred:
1 year of related experience, preferred.
Use of calipers and micrometers and other measuring equipment.
Honorably discharged service veterans preferred.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (must have reliable transportation to work).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Able to work well with others and be a team player.
Able to stand in place for long periods of time.
Able to follow ALL safety procedures.
Safety glasses, respirators, gloves etc.
Able to work independently and ensure tasks are completed with little supervision.
Ability to work under stress in high pressure situations.
Able to handle frequent interruptions and handle conflict in an effective manner.
Adaptability and ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Possess a positive and energetic self-starter attitude, with excellent drive, ambition and work ethic.
Ability to communicate ideas effectively and maintain deadlines.
Able to operate wire fed welder.
Basic knowledge of Excel spread sheets and Microsoft Teams.
